ufo book
BOOK DESIGN
The starting point for this book included hundreds of pages of unedited information, including text, images, tables and graphs, relating to studies of UFOs, conducted by the University of Colorado. The goal was to sort all that information, structure it through hierarchy, use the images, graphs and tables appropriately to support the text into a final designed book. This project involved the design of a colophon, choosing the typefaces, redoing the diagrams in illustrator, designing the table of contents, chapter and section openings, choosing the pull quotes, creating the charts, and designing the glossary. I had to understand the discipline and attention to detail that is required as a typographer. Every page was touched in the making of the book. Some challenges while making this book were learning how to handle a lot of information and designing many levels of hierarchy it all into one book.
Once, I created a strong system to all of the informative and its elements the book was finished with a strong cohesiveness throughout. In completion of this project, I was able to develop an understanding of grid and its relationship to content.
The final system includes the book cover, spine design, title pages, call-outs, various headers and sub-headers, image choices and more. Book design, like most design, is all about creating a system. Information requires organization and the appropriate communication of the text, images, and graphs.
